At the same time the American Famicom or Nintendo Entertainment System was booming in popularity and praise, I knew five children's animes about a decade before anime became widely known. Back then, the term "anime" wasn't heard by anyone in my area and no matter what region they came from, they were always called "cartoons". Nowadays, I often sadly hear the term "anime" over its predecessor "manga", while even retro gamers usually like saying "weeaboo" at manga/anime fans while not realizing and don't care to know some games and platforms they play on may be Japan-made.

Thinking "Just do it." It's obvious, bland, and straight-forward but it works. Just doodle, that's the best way to start. Shapes. Sketches. Bad cartoons. Non-sense. Then after a few minutes I usually get an idea of something I ACTUALLY want to draw.
