I've read like as much Junji Ito manga as I can at this point haha. The Corpse Party OVA episodes were fairly decent although its not as scary as it could be with all the panty shots XD but the sound effects work in that anime is amazing.

I'd say something darker like (child)abuse, drugs, depression, suicide etc. Not saying that those haven't been explored before, but they are something that rarely get focussed on deeply.
