Should go under Wholesome Meme. Cause that's adorable!
joemama711
They say it's gonna be like 20 degrees next week, how are you gonna fair with that xD
gabriel_true
Gabriel @gabriel_true Jimmy Carter used to always say to wear your sweaters.
joemama711
Someone You used to know. @joemama711 What else did he used to say?
gabriel_true
Gabriel @gabriel_true He said to deregulate the trucking industry, so we get paid way less than we deserve.
joemama711
Someone You used to know. @joemama711 I feel like every job pays us way less then we deserve. I wonder who put that in the law
gabriel_true
Gabriel @gabriel_true Congress under Carter and further laws were passed under Reagan. Before the 1980's the average driver made over $100,000. Now that's become the exception for very specific types of drivers.
joemama711
Someone You used to know. @joemama711 Damn I'm guessing it's impossible to undo the amount of damage Reagan did or it just isn't viable due to inflation and other rules. I wonder if Owner Operators even make a good living nowadays with brokers and other shit
gabriel_true
Gabriel @gabriel_true There are videos of interviews done with different drivers who own their trucks. It varies widely depending on location and what you are willing to transport. My brother gave up being an owner operator after 2 years of breaking even. That's why he's spent the last 20 driving for a company.
joemama711
Someone You used to know. @joemama711 That makes sense, does he still drive currently?
gabriel_true
Gabriel @gabriel_true For now. He may retire soon depending on the economy. His company laid off multiple drivers and have decreased the amount of money you can earn with them. He went from making $80-85k a year down to below $70k. Even my company that's on the lower end of the pay spectrum is looking to further cut costs
joemama711
Someone You used to know. @joemama711 Does he have a pension plan or 401K, it kinda sucks that companies are laying off people, I think he might be able to go to a different company but that's also location and travel wise. Does he do local or OTR?
gabriel_true
Gabriel @gabriel_true He does both short and long distance depending on the needs of the company. They pay based on type and distance. It's paid hourly during short runs and by the mile during long. He doesn't have a pension.
joemama711
Someone You used to know. @joemama711 Ehh inconsistency is never great in my opinion

She's got the same Gura Gwar speaking voice.

I'm not to familiar with Mint the VTuber but her singing voice is smoooth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drSoBNL8seY
arc
Arc @arc Now that you mention it, yeah you're right
gabriel_true
Gabriel @gabriel_true Like they sing differently for sure, however when they just talk it's difficult to not hear them as the same individual. I also noticed many of the higher pitched voice actors seem to sing on a lower key. I'm aware people's singing voice and speaking voice are typically different, but it sounds as if the lower voiced people will sing with a higher register and vice versa the other way around. Could just be me.

Firstly, merry late Christmas and happy late new year lol, it's been a time and a half my friend but we're still here and we're still getting shit done
gabriel_true
Gabriel @gabriel_true I'm grateful you're still well! How has your career been? My newer job as a CDL driver has been a rollercoaster ride with all the crazy situations I find myself in between company policies and State laws. Been all over the place to say the least.
joemama711
Interview went fine, I start Mon 6am-2:13 haha the shift in times gonna suck but I'll be glad to be making money again.
gabriel_true
Gabriel @gabriel_true Glad you got hired.
joemama711
Someone You used to know. @joemama711 Thanks man, any updates on your end, how long do you think you'll stay with the company before maybe getting a better deal?
gabriel_true
Gabriel @gabriel_true Hard to say. The higher paying jobs want 3 years plus and endorsements which I don't have. My brother's company that he's been with for 20 years is laying off staff. Union strikes on the coast has forced many drivers to change what they haul with ports closing. In addition many port routes require stricter regulations including buying a brand new tractor every 3 years. At least in Virginia. Maybe not so much in other states? Again truck driving is wildly different for many people. Company vs. lease operator vs. independent vs hot shoting all have different requirements as well as expectations that come with pros and cons.
joemama711
Someone You used to know. @joemama711 Oh man that is rough, I didn't think there was more strikes going on after the whole dock worker news but shows how fast time is going. Wanting 3 years and endorsement must be a big jump in money for what they want maybe? I wouldn't know what to do
gabriel_true
Gabriel @gabriel_true Yes and no. Sheetz pays $40 an hour for tanker drivers. Walmart Distribution pays dry van trailer drivers up to $120k if you drive for them 15 years. *Shrug*
joemama711
Someone You used to know. @joemama711 Tanker do be making decent, I hear they kinda have more control over the surge? Walmart takes a few years too I believe but idk if the trade off for both

It's alright so far, tommorow is gonna be interesting and so is next week assuming I start. How has yours been, do they have you on standby, you doing anything fun?
gabriel_true
Gabriel @gabriel_true Off today. Just messing around in the yard trying to figure out what happened to one of my trees that split in half. I hope this new job works in your favor. What do they have you doing?
joemama711
Someone You used to know. @joemama711 Did it snow in your area as well or did something happen to it randomly? I'm not sure yet, I have a interview with the president of the company tomorrow after 10, all I know is they've made a lot of medical facilities and other stuff
gabriel_true
Gabriel @gabriel_true It did snow snow, but this was a spruce, so I don't see why a couple inches of snow would cause it to separate literally in half. It could be the Virginia weather going between hot and cold caused it to crack at the base or something? That or insect damage, maybe?
joemama711
Someone You used to know. @joemama711 Hm that's true if it's pretty old it could probably be anything, I know theirs a few huge trees in the front of neighbors yard and ones bending over pretty badly so the extra pressure could cause it or insect damage., maybe bad soil. I'm not sure honestly
gabriel_true
You left out the one that's covered in mold after sitting in the fridge for a week.

I finally finished my motion activated stairway lighting system. It was pure hell
arc
Arc @arc plugged into the wall. I have the cable hidden with some cord covers attached to the wall and into the plugin at the top of the stairs
