Hello, I basically joined this site in the hopes of finding a girlfriend with whom i can share some interests. I've been looking around the site (that is a bit unintuitive to navigate) for the past 2 hours (i think). And I feel like ive just joined a site that is in the process of dying, and maybe not what i thought it was. Can anyone confirm as to what keeps people here? Are there any success stories? Just curious, I dont want to immedeately give up on this site.

At least 3 of the regulars on here have been married in the last couple years because of this site.
Many more aren't active on the forums. Actually there is a larger international circle of Maiotaku regulars that simply DM each other as opposed to using the actual forum board.
Interestingly a vast majority of us that do interact on the forums mostly live on the east coast of the US. Couple west coasters and some midwesterners here and there. Central and South America also sees some representation too.
As for myself I like talking to people from different parts of the world and there are some interesting folks I do keep in touch with. Not dating, but light conversations. Though I also came looking to date originally ultimately I stayed for the friends I made along the way, haha!

In my days (aka 10 years ago) the website was booming haha but gabriel could be right, i think its a mix of different type of people leaving and joining but if we all make an effort to join forums it will probably be livelier c:

I see, thank you for the replies. Maybe i should look for a different site if i want to find someone then. Im not opposed to using this site to talk with people about anime either and potentially become friends, but idk ive never actually participated in a forum before. It might take some time to get used to. Guess ill take some time to think it over.

Honestly I think it's not just Maiotaku that has had way less traffic. I think it's a lot of dating forums and websites. I might have met someone I married from this site, but that was back in the golden era. I honestly don't know where Gen Z people are going to date. I'm guessing they've mostly moved to exclusively dating apps.

Yeah, I tried Bumble because it worked for a friend. I noticed that if you are not a free user, people will only see you when your account is new. Otherwise i would have continued to get likes after that period was over. Also it is extremely hard to find users who have liked you, i know this cuz if you dislike them they dissapear but otherwise they stay in the list. I wanted to try this site, because i saw it in a video talking about anime dating sites but also because i felt like there is such a small amount of anime enjoyers on bumble. And those i saw, while im sure they are great in there own right, smoked, drank alcohol or used drugs. I cant be with someone like that. So, idk guess my preferences are a bit hard to match :(

Unfortunately every single dating site/app is statistically cursed from the get-go unless you are extremely above average looking and/or have extremely above average finances and this goes for both men and women (I believe the statistic is something like 80% of users are competing for the top 20% of the dating pool of the opposite gender) Obviously people get lucky, and how bad the odds are goes down the more active people there are on a given app but in general looking for positive results is a fools errand.
Your best bet is to cast as wide a net as possible (i.e. just use multiple apps/sites when you can) and put yourself out there. If you have a free minute, go participate in some random thread and you never know right? Otherwise just keep your expectations realistic and consider investing in some monk robes
