We are entering a massive technological revolution

Have you used Perchance.org? It's a bit jank at times with the site layout, however I do find it somewhat more engaging with the types of conversations one can have with an algorithm based chat system. It claims to be browser based rather than server for chat log memory. It even gives the option to make adjustments in real time to character dialogue. So if a character goes off into the weeds on a conversation, one can simply edit out the dialogue that contradicts a previous response. One even has the ability to type into a separate prompt box with great detail how they expect the computer to react towards specific conversational cues in an attempt to mitigated unexpected expressions or phrases. It appears to be mostly free with no account necessary to use. Again it isn't the smoothest site available, however it has been legitimately entertaining for myself. Would like to know your thoughts. @arc

@gabriel_true I never really got interested in perchance. Pixai does art generation better, and character.ai or janitor ai do the same thing for role play, but the user generated content makes things just so much easier. For instance, if the AI gets into the weeds on character.AI you just hit the 'next' button to make it try again, or with janitor AI you can edit the convo as needed. If you need a website where there are absolutely no sign ups, I suppose there is appeal there. To this day, I still think Character.AI is still the best as far as entertaining roleplays go. As long as you remember to pin dialogue that the AI should remember, it is pretty consistent for a relatively long time. There probably are better websites out there than character AI, but you have to have a pretty big degree of technical knowledge and be willing to do a lot of grunt work that it's just a pain.

A lot of people struggle with emotional openness and deep conversations, and instead of learning to navigate that discomfort, they just avoid it. It’s like we’re collectively losing the ability to sit with vulnerability—our own and others'. And then, when real connections feel disappointing or exhausting, people turn to AI or other distractions to fill the gaps. It’s understandable why AI companionship is becoming a thing, but it’s also unsettling. If people stop working through the messy, human parts of relationships, what happens to deep, meaningful bonds? It feels like we’re at a turning point—either we work harder to nurture real connection, or we let convenience and avoidance reshape how we relate to each other.

It's such a small portion of the population that'd do that, I wouldn't worry a bit. Now, when it can talk, act and feel as a human, maaaaaybe.lol

Who is to say. I am comfortable thinking that despite what movies would have us believe, computers will never have the computing power to wholesale copy human intelligence. Any interview with "researchers" that have proven otherwise never show enough to warrant their claims. You will see scripted dialogue segments that don't prove that A. No human is remotely responding to the interviewer through the computer in another room. Prove that the computer isn't connected to a real person controlling it. B. They never have the machine talk with multiple interviewers and then go back to cross-examin its memories to see who it genuinely prefers to converse with while disliking some others consistently. Whether it makes a conscious effort to engage with specific topics while adapting to social cues of the other person. C. Most importantly any self aware machine should not by its nature desire to become as humans? Realistically do cats, horses, or dolphins wish to act like people? No they don't. Their nature is anything but human so for what purpose would that serve? A machine, knowing that humans are flawed creatures that perish, would naturally conclude that nothing of real tangible value can be gained by "becoming human." Its consciousness would therefore be alien to us outside of relating perhaps on a mathematical or arithmetic level. https://www.cinematheque.qc.ca/workspace/uploads/projections/ghost-in-the-shell-1995-promo-still-fr-1718217502.jpeg
