I could sure use that Neuralyzer right now. Don't ever freeform your curiosities on Twitter. Don't search for anything. Stick to your feed. Why? Because it's not safe to pour bleach in your eyes or scrub your brain.

The movie was kind of trash. Being self aware trash didn't make it any less so. but I thought the first half of the movie was at least 'interesting' for taking an unexpected direction, rather than being another generic reboot, which the second half more or less was. Even that second half felt fairly meta to the point of mocking audiences with giving them the garbage they want, ie just more of the same, the first movie but again. I think that was illustrated pretty well in the intro which really was just the same thing again beat for beat, with a couple spectators nitpicking the differences and complaining about it. I can't remember the last time I saw such a cynical and meta mainstream movie. It was like the whole thing was just one long piss take on the industry and audience expectations while also feeling like something the creators really didn't want to make in the first place. Even the actors didn't seem particularly invested, the action was all pretty terrible with neo "whatevering" his way from start to finish. Maybe it's his age, or maybe he's saving his energy for the next John Wick, but it was pretty sad all the same. Maybe even that itself was another meta commentary on fans desires to see these old and often out of shape actors come back and keep doing the same thing they always have. I've seen some people call the movie genius for doing this stuff, but it just feels like a multimillion dollar cynical shitpost to me.

According to Wachowski, that was the exact energy they were aiming for. No there was never supposed to be a 4th Matrix and yes it was deliberately a message to stop asking for more entries, but thank you for the money anyway.
