Do you guys have a big caffeine addiction? I'm doing an experiment on myself where I switch to drinking only tea when I'm at work. I mainly want to do this because I'm forced to use sink water in the kerug machine at work if I want coffee and I know unfiltered sink water is not good for me in the long run :(
This week I'm trying to cut out coffee, cold turkey. I'm drinking hot tea in the morning instead and fasting until dinner time. It has been an....interesting expectance. I felt sluggish all day long. The first day I had really bad headaches after 8 hours. When I came home I literally fell asleep on the couch at 7pm, right after dinner. Slept for 3 hours before I could recover.
Day 2: No headaches, less sluggish during the day. I had dinner at 7 and I freaking fell asleep on the couch again! It's like when I eat dinner, I'm checked out for the next 2 hours. Needless to say, my productivity has jumped off a cliff. I'll update this post as the days go on.
Day 3: It's the weekend. I had some pistachio syrup I special ordered online with all natural ingredients. I put that shit in a latte @verucassault prepared for me and it was AMAZING. I got surprisingly jittery from just one cup. I will start again on my tea quest on monday to see how quick I return to the headaches.

Oh, my vice is my one energy drink a day. Not quite as much caffeine as a pot of coffee, but probably WAY more harmful.
Here's a fun read if you think coffee is the problem.

All I got from that is if you wanna die early, you quit drinking coffee. Maybe that's just me.
Tea is good, but tea also has caffeine. Some more than others, but unless it's herbal, it probably has some amount of caffeine.
Also, it really doesn't sound like your addiction to caffeine and the sudden lack thereof is the main reason for that much of an energy drop. Sure, headaches and irritability will probably happen, maybe some lack of energy and your body adjusts... But, it doesn't make sense to he that dramatic unless you drank nothing but coffee beforehand. Caffeine is an addictive drug, but not addictive enough to regulate in food/drinks geared towards kids, I guess. You'll be fine, just drink nothing but water, your body will thank you in the long run.

I will admit that I take pre-workout on a daily basis which is 250mg of caffeine. Sometimes I feel unmotivated after the first scoop so I ease in a bit more. So that hovers in the three to four cups of coffee in caffeine content. Strange thing is that I don't seem to have any ill effects from my days off that I don't take it.

It depends on what kind of coffee I drink, like where it's grown, how it's roasted, how its brewed and how it's served. Some sources say it helps reduce risk of heart disease, some cancers and early death while helping the sperm cells know where to go, while some say it can be addictive due to caffeine while it can increase bad LDL cholesterol. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it's unnecessary.
Nowadays, I feel like cutting back from coffee for a while and going with others. Some teas and kombuchas help sometimes. But at night, I usually drink lemon ginger tea and sometimes peppermint tea.
Lukewarm bottled water is my best choice. Detox water is also useful.

My sudden drops in energy were probably because of my fasting. Before, I would drink coffee and creamer in the morning. The dairy was enough calories to get me through work without eating. However, upon switching to tea I no longer had any calories for about 12 hours at a time. Then the calorie bomb for dinner put me in a food coma.
The main reason I am trying to shift towards drinking tea at work is more out of necessity. If I want to use the coffee machine, I have to use water straight from the sink. I don't know what exactly is in the sink water, but I know drinking that stuff unfiltered every day can't be good for me. With the tea, I can use the filtered water tank that has a hot water button. I drank some AMAZING coffee today so I think I'm going to try to limit my tea drinking to work.

Why not just drink straight black coffee? Not enough calories to matter and you'll still get caffeine. Brew a thermos full before you get to work and call that your ration. Or, just get instant coffee and mix it with hot water at work. Of course, this is coming from someone who only drinks coffee black, so my opinion might be a little biased. Cutting back definitely won't hurt, but caffeine does help you burn calories. And I apologise, I guess I focused to much on the caffeine part and I neglected that you said you're fasting. Fasting definitely makes sense and is probably the biggest culprit in this situation. Gotta find that balance that works.
