I mean you too consume this media from a biased perspective, Panda. What you perceive to be biased/unbiased depends on your own bias. Whenever I watch CNN (let’s not even speak of Fox News and Co.) it seems extremely biased and skewed towards certain narratives to me. I’m not from the Middle East but US media and how they portray events is vastly different from the way it’s portrayed in Germany. Or Russia. To me Russian media also seems extremely biased but that’s likely because I spend most of my time in Germany. German media is probably just as skewed as Russian and American media. Point is: be aware of your confirmation bias and check different outlets from different parts of the world (if you can) when consuming news media. Also read Chomsky’s “Manufacturing consent”. Applies to every damn country’s media.

Media appeal to and enhance people's bias. If they didn't write unbiased articles and reports, how would they get adequate views?

Sad, but true. Journalism isn’t about revealing the truth but about holding up stigma and to fear monger. I’d like to say that’s a new phenomenon.. but it’s not. Since its inception this is what public media does.

I mention CNN because in my opinion its the biggest platform for news. Bigger than fox, cnsmbc, or whatever else peopme watch). Also keep in kind i said local news, so i was IN the middle east. This event took place IN the middle east, and their media was less biased than ours toward our own president. Like they didnt blame president trump for anything. They just said soleimani was killed and its causing chaos in iran and people are asking for justice. Our news has painted our president in a bad light. Calling him out as incompetent to lead and just some bigoted tyrant. When that is not the case and our country was liberally fine prior to covid. On the same path to criticising the president, they ignored issues such as black on black crime due to riots. Which took place because of racial injustice. Imagine that black guy gets killed by cop and as a result during a riot from that another black guy gets killed by a black guy. Weird how that wasnt covered. It only matters when it fits their agenda.

Ah, I’m sorry. “More unbiased”. My brain skipped the more. In that case I’m glad you made that discovery.. but still stay critical. Not just of the media but of yourself. That’s the main point I was trying to make. And also again @everyone: Manufacturing consent is an essential read.

It’s less than 5%. But it’s the best starting point for people who.. you know... don’t go to uni for this.
