Even though Bernie Sanders tried to defend his socialist views by comparing FDR as a socialist, he was not. It is not accurate to describe FDR as a socialist, because the New Deal was more about endowing the government with enhanced ability to regulate the means of production than about actually transferring ownership of means of production to social organizations such as unions. Bernie would be the first socialist president. I agree with differentdrum that Hillary is part of the establishment in D.C., the Washington elite. She has not a chance against Bernie Sanders. People can see through her and they had enough.

Why was this thread revived? There are at least two threads about this that aren't as old. But they're all equally depressing.

Honestly, I don't like any of them. = Bernie is a socialist. I'm against the redistribution of wealth, thing is ol Berns likes to make you think that redistribution will come from the rich. Wrong. It will also come from the middle class. Socialism leads to a two-class society and they always fail. Redistribution of wealth will bring middle class families into low class status. That's the problem with socialism, it sounds excellent on paper. But in practice it turns out to be a steaming pile of shit. = = Hillary is an outright liar. She has made jokes about American deaths in Benghazi, she has legally threatened women Bill has had affairs with. Yet she loves to masquerade around as a feminist and progressive. She's been caught in lie after lie. When the questions don't suit her, she rewords them. Hillary is evil, she cares only about herself and the Clinton name and will step on anyone she needs to in order to get what she wants. = = Jeb Bush is just a puppet, plain and simple. He memorizes his speeches and gets flustered when pulled off his script. He doesn't have an original thought in his head. = = Ted Cruz still has to file the proper paperwork to be considered a natural born American citizen. When called on it, he becomes angry and goes on the offensive. He's never been able to stay solid on an issue, and always ends up being wishy-washy. = = Trump does say what a lot of people have been dying to say to the other politicians. He is an outsider and that's good. However if his debates are any indication of how he'll carry himself as a president, it doesn't look good. He gets angry and throws tantrums too often, I wouldn't want to see him with any power over a military. = Welcome to the craptastic United States.

I would go with either Sanders or Trump (preferably Sanders and basically any of the other Republicans over Clinton) We need to send the message that "political correctness" and "politics as usual" isn't right and isn't going to be tolerated any longer. Voting either of the two above will be as much about changing how politics operate in the future as it is about the four years of that person. Sanders will legitimately want to make Wall Street pay for what they've done to the rest of the country and actually care about the middle class - a much welcomed relief. Trump while not as altruistic will definitely always speak how he is truly feeling and he's not going to be manipulated by any (or at least not that many) others - his own ego is an entirely different story. Voting for Trump would be more about proving a point for candidates going forward (2020 and on) than this election. Sanders and Trump are channeling a lot of political agnostics out of their shell (like myself) and that alone is (overall) good for political discourse. Clinton would be the worst as she would be the epitome of politics as usual and we would probably be in the same place in four years (she has some cult of voters those "progressives" who want to vote for her just because she's a woman but don't see any hypocrisy or flaw in that).

I'm actually kinda leaning more hillary just because I don't know if we can get the senate for anything that bernie sanders wants to do. The thing that a lot of people don't realize is that it's not really the presidental election that is important. It's all the elections that happen every year. They're the ones who determine who runs for nominations, they're the ones who determine seats in congress where laws actually come from. The president is only a super politician who can advocate and enforce laws, but only congress can make laws. So in that aspect, both Sanders and Trump would have this problem if the senate seats up for grabs go in to the opposite party. And then the house is still currently under republican control if I remember correctly.

@xueli: No Hillary. It's not like we'll never get another chance to elect a woman as president, we have the rest of time. Hillary is very wrong for the job and cares only about the Clinton name. I really hope you watched the hearings over the classified emails. The way she twists the questions to suit her answers is sickening.

@gudmoore I'm actually not voting for her because she's a woman. I don't generally vote solely due to gender or race. And I've watched the hearings. I don't feel that way *shrug*
