Not focusing in on guns or control, talks about the psychology of mass shootings. I'm sure studies have advanced some in the last few years to give a broader scope of incite to what makes people snap and go on these rampages. It actually reminded me a lot of Minority Report or Psycho-pass. With MR, they are profiling everyone trying to predict if they will commit a crime, down to mere minutes of it potentially happening. It gets sci-fiy though as they actually use oracles to predict these potential out comes. More appropriate, Psycho-pass features technology that allows for on-the-spot psycho-evaluations which are key indicators of criminal intentions. Of course in the anime you see how the system is manipulated however, i think it would be beneficial. Maybe a bit too invasive. I could never see people actually campaigning for it to be presented in Congress lol. But for all the cons it has, think of its potential to prevent. But I don't think we'll ever get there. There's way too many factors and variables outside of psychology that influence our emotions and behaviors. Besides lacking a well rooted system of mental health, we are also a nation which continues to struggle financially and poverty rates keep growing. Unless something happens where we find balance, violent crimes will persist. Oh noz, I'm sounding like a potential socialist in a capitalist realm. *runs away from the pitchforks*

@ Deku-kun: As a gun owner I can say both yes and no. On the one hand it is a person issue. But now we must ask, why is it that only the US has problems like this? Are we the stupid capital of the world? Simultaneously the smartest and most advanced yet the dumbest and most primitive? There are gun owners in Australia and the UK and Germany yet they don't have the mass shooting frequency that we do. Do they have more issues of stabbings? Sure. Do they stab 10 people to death? Rarely.

I think we can look into what other countries are doing and make some reasonable changes that don't infringe on our constitutional rights. It's very tricky ground, and I can't claim to know the definitive solution. Our government certainly doesn't know. But I do know one thing. If I'm a college student and know a shooter is in the building, you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to get out of the damn building. What the hell are teachers thinking? Lock the door? SERIOUSLY? How about through a chair through the damn window and run? If you are on the second floor or higher, it's a little bit harder. Hide next to the door frame and wait for him to walk in, then tackle him from the side. Locking the door and hiding in a corner DOES NOT WORK. The whole strategy of sticking your head in the dirt and hoping the shooter doesn't see you doesn't exactly work out. From the moment a shooter enters the campus it's war. You have two choices; fight, or flee. You act like a sheep, and you die. It's such a shame student's are instructed to just hide under their desks and wait for death. That is what needs to change!

I live by Portland, OR and it is all people were taking about today. CNN was focusing on the guy referring to himself as a Beta Male who had a hard time socializing, especially with women. 4chan's Beta revenge thread was for making an Elliot Rodgers 2.0 jab from what I heard. Don't read into all that alpha/beta BS too much. It is just a relative scale used out of context because it is easy for the masses to understand. 4chan is 4chan I doubt they are culpable. Just wait, there's yet another or going to be another. Someone has been spotted at VCU with a gun... God damn pussy assed copy cats. Why can't people just die alone anymore? It's not about stricter gun laws, it's about mental health screening, parents that actually are involved in their kids lives and people actually listening to what others say. And to op, I don't care if you're apathetic.Could you be any more insensitive towards those affected? What you're saying is "it doesn't affect me so why care?". Don't she'd a tear when it hits home if you can feel nothing for those affected now. You're right, there are worse things in this world, but that doesn't take away the senselessness of events like this, media or not. Arc, one guy did charge the shooter and guess what? He managed to save probably a few lives. He was shot seven times while charging at the guy and is currently recuperating. That's someone who's a real man and truly a rarity amongst humanity. Edit: VCU was given the all clear, but tensions are quite high.

Actually yass, the brave guy who charged the gunman was shot seven times but he is still alive after surgery. Most people in any given room will not have the courage to step up like that guy did.
