Have you ever known someone absolutely brilliant? If so, in what way and what were they like personality wise? How did you feel when you talked to them or simply watched them? Were they happy most of the time or indifferent or even sad? Please share your story.

I know a guy who's self proclaimed to be brilliant. He's got ADHD and is Bipolar, believes insanity is misunderstood genius. Guy can be a bit annoying at times, mainly when he goes on one of his trips and starts spamming my inbox with gibberish. Also gotta watch what I say around him, he gets upset extremely easily.

I would say everybody's brilliant in their own way but let's be honest there are some people out there who don't deserve that statement, you know the kind of people I'm talking about but the vast majority of people are - we're unique in our own ways, we all have our quirks and talents with our own perspectives on the world. We have our own hobbies, families and friends and we lead our lives the way we want. We have goals and aspirations and that makes us wonderful people. Whether we love, hate, like, dislike or feel indifferent about others, we're all brilliant.
Society these days have an arbitrary definition of brilliant and try to bullshit us with that view; they say we have to be physically beautiful. successful, have a lot of money, a high-paying job and married and have a family but I reject that notion 100%. Even that kind, homeless guy down the street is brilliant in his own way, he might be a bit eccentric and perhaps doesn't even have a family but he's a brilliant bastard in his own right - and the same can go for the most successful people out there are brilliant just the same in their own unique way.
Brilliance has no arbitrary measure, it has no raw definition - brilliance is what people make of it and what they make of themselves. You don't need to be the most successful, you don't need a wife or kids, you don't need to be the smartest or anything like that. You just need to be you, the very things that define you is what makes you brilliant. You're brilliant, I'm brilliant, we're all brilliant and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. And even if you were highly talented, beautiful and everything was going well for you in your life - just the qualities of kindness and humility alone are what makes you brilliant even if you didn't have any of those gifts.
We're not perfect but we're brilliant and sometimes you just need to look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself you're brilliant and accept yourself for who you are. We're all brilliant.
Now that was a brilliant mouthful.
:D

Respectfully, I'd have to disagree with that. I have encountered many people who aren't exceptional or brilliant. They aren't radiant or glowing with something special. These individuals are simply stuck in one single mindset and will probably remain that way. I'm not actively trying to put anyone down. I really posted this topic to see if others have encountered some exceptional people because I find stories like those inspiring.

For me being gifted is not being born with an IQ above 130 but rather hard work. When I was in high school I didn't have many motivations to study or something. I lived in some conditions that depressed me somehow so I didn't have any will to study, however I've been naturally gifted we a pretty good memory so I never failed. Then I decided to use this on advantage. I've met few people that weren't near as "gifted" as I was but they were better than me due to hardwork. I've even read stories of these people with really high IQ and it resulted that the one with the highest IQ ever registered didn't do nothing impressive in his life, not something that can't do a normal IQ'd person at least. So for me it's pretty much hardwork. Never met someone naturally "gifted", I don't even consider myself to be one of them to be honest. Then I decided to start working hard by doing something most people would consider hard at my age, it served me as a motivation changing my position completely. For the first time there were posibilities of me failing even trying my best.
Then again, in my opinion, brains are not a gift. A person naturally gifted is the one that can put another people first than themselves, working hard for them and achieving goals for others. The unselfish kind of people. I've only met one person like that in my life and I look up to one day become like her.

Well, I'm still going to admire fictional characters regardless of them being fictional lol. It makes me feel invigorated to see someone like Tony Stark or Sherlock Holmes, or Captain Picard going about their lives the way they do. I like being in their shoes from time to time.

I've run into a few people that have exceeded my expectations far beyond that if normal capacity. They were just awesome from the knowledge that they held. That's about it though.

I have dealt with quite a few people who have been in the gifted program. And from what I seen, they are gifted in being assholes and that is about it. I ended up once in the gifted program once due to a test I took and got high marks. Got to say it was so overwhelming. They were all mean to each other, and egotistical and always trying to use difficult words to seem smarter. I got out of that after I brought in the dictionary and proved they had no idea what the words they were using meant. so yeah, pretty much pricks. at least from my experience.
