That's me every August before con season hits around these parts. I'm counting calories, avoiding everything sweet, and taking weighted strolls around the neighborhood every night. I get it all back again as soon as the holidays arrive.

Want results? Stay consistent, remember it's a life change, commit and stay true for the sake of yourself. Dieting is easy. Changing your diet for the long haul? Not so much. But, it certainly can be done. I've lost ten pounds in three weeks and now weigh around 190 instead of 202. Ya just need to make a life change and not a short term diet for short lived results.

Yup. Cardio is good to get the metabolism and activity cycle moving if you are very inactive normally. Also it is good to do weight training. A mix of bulk, endurance, and toning. Increasing lean muscle mass makes your body require more calories 24/7 by raising your base metabolic rate; min calories burned in 24 hours when at rest. The weight workout itself causes the body to burn more calories after the session for about 24 hours anticipating more work to do. If you lift some everyday it effectively keeps your metabolic rate up consuming more calories 24/7. It is also cumulative as you build muscle mass that needs more base calories. Ever see someone who loses weight even to their ideal range but still looks soft? They have too little muscle mass. This is also why some can't keep weight off without running and starving themselves to death forever. If you want to eat more calories sensibly you can with a higher BMR and maintain easier with 2 days at the gym. I replaced 90% of any drinks that had processed sugar with water & brewed tea. I still eat my fav foods just smaller/fewer portions slowly and fruits replaced most snacks. I hate running so I power walk and love to hike and add leg weights or take my mountain pack loaded with books trekking around the hills of my town. I do ~4-6 miles 3-5 days/wk now. My legs have always been pretty good but I gain most of my weight in the belly/hips/butt and I have so-so upper body strength. My coach is having me do weight training now as I was too focused on cardio and just sweating my ass off LOL.
