Why does it seem "normal" people are much weirder?

trahecreations
I know this is strange to say, but Normal people. Those who have no idea about anime and such seem weird to me. I am wondering if this is a normal notion. I mean I am an otaku, everyone knows it. Yet every year I get at least one person going on a rant at me where 90% of the stuff they say is "it's not just you" or it in is inaccurate. Or like not to long ago, I was fast asleep in my bed and my neighbor banged on my door repeatedly til I woke up, came to the door, which they asked me to do them a favor (I grunted in my half asleep state so It appears I agreed?), then they go into telling me about gossip which I care not for, only to shut up when I finally just turn around and snap at my hamster for chewing on plastic. I want to know if stuff like this is normal or odd and I am just dealing with odd normal people or something.

Well for one "normal" doesnt just apply to people who arent aware of anime cause otaku are normal too (im meam we occasionally have that one otaku who comes to school in old world war 2 get up and gets kicked off campus for running around screaming) im not sure if im getting your question but no what that person did wasnt really ok i mean they woke you out of your sleep for gossip i guess its only natural that you snap at your hamster because im guessing you were cranky

well from my experience Otakus tend to have different manner sets, different behaviors and such. Like a fusion between their base culture, them as a person and the anime they watched. I may have phrased this oddly.

Yes I have met a number of good otakus. And I met a few that were bad. One of which stalked me because I knew his anime and could beat him at his own game (the game from his anime). You are right one trick ponies are not normal and are a bit creepy. I like a number of animes and mangas myself and hope all are like that. as for normal, I know I am not normal (people say I am a living cartoon or a shut in) but my normal has been in question for a while as I been having to deal with people whom I do not think are normal. And as I only really know of Otakus and not any other people (mainly because if I describe something fantasy or sci fi everyone else is gone)

To me, there is no such thing as "Normal". Every person is different, even identical twins. If there are people that are "Normal", then they're just background characters. Boring, bland, useless, and no one cares if they die. (Unless it was a girl, although that's just me) No one wants to be a "Normal" background character, we strive to be the best main protagonist, or heroine, or even demon lord! That's what I call being Alive! We call things that we don't understand "Weird", but actually what we mean to say is "Intriguing"! It is the main reason of ignoring the laws given to us, or the labels that have been placed upon us, that we continue to become faster, stronger, smarter, better every time! That is how we create our world, one that has laws, but is without limits! It is that very paradox that makes the world so useable, and how we create a past, present and future!

Depends on what is normal. The world kind of seems like a mental hospital ran by the patients ATM. What is the fun is being ordinary anyway? ;p "People are strange, when you're a stranger..." The Doors

There's no normal since it depends on everyone's individual point of view. Someone can call you weird for loving an anime, but that person might be even crazier than you when it comes to their favourite thing. People can look at you funny for being a lefty, wearing glasses or having your hair cut shorter. I get called weird for tilting my head when drinking. Hell, one person can look at something they posted on facebook 3 years ago and think that they were weird back then. The angle of view and the position which you view your reality will change the perception of its nature. It is all literally a matter of perspective.
