Grrr...

Warning, this is just a rant about something that has always annoyed me to no end. For the past couple years, I've been open to all kinds of hairstyles. Long, short, curly, straight, whatever. Before this though, I was never really okay with my natural hair seeing as I went to school with people with nothing but straight hair. So what do I do, I straighten it by the time I get to middle school to try to fit in with the crowd. Not many comments made but I still get asked why my hair is how it is. Jump to junior year in high school, It's obvious that relaxing my hair has been doing nothing but damaging it yet I still do it anyways. It has never gotten past shoulder-length because it would always just break off. Was kind of at a loss of what to do with it for a while. Now, I'm staying away from relaxers all together. Will I still straighten it? Yes, but not often. I'm trying to let my natural hair grow back to a good length. I've worn my hair in different styles, braided, curly, straight but there are always negative comments made no matter how I choose to do it. Recently I told my boyfriend that I was going to stop using relaxers. He had no idea what it meant. I pointed at my hair and said, "you see this? not gonna be like this anymore." He was still a bit confused but then understood that I meant it wasn't going to be straight. I told him it's going to go back to the normal coil-y spirals from before. To this he didn't respond as I had hoped, but responded as I expected. "I like your hair straight." I'm not changing my mind though, I told him too bad, this way it'll be healthier and I can do more too it. I also told him that once I grow it out to a certain point, I'm gonna think about ombre-ing it so that the ends will be blue. If not that just get extensions or something with that style. He immediately told me "If you dye your hair blue, I'm leaving you." Pretty sure he was joking but it still irked me. Why does my hair color concern him? He also told me that he hates it when girls hair covers there face. Couldn't help but slowly turn towards him to remind him that that's exactly what I did when I first met him..... TL;DR -->But my main point is, keep your hair natural...people think it looks crazy. Straighten it...people accuse you of trying to be white or denying your heritage. Dafuq guys. Even worse, IF YOU DYE IT YOU ARE INSTANTLY LABELED GHETTO but if someone else where to do it, it would be "edgy" and "cute"<---TL;DR .-. just so at a loss, I had a friend who dyed the ends of her hair blue and know a girl who has purple hair. The looks they receive and the comments behind their backs are so awful and disgusting. Yet, there are other girls walking around with pink hair, green and blue hair, or raccoon prints and nothing is said to them. It discourages me from doing anything with my hair.

Of course I'm a boy and I keep my hair straight and normal, so I probably won't have that knowledgeable of a response, but here I got anyway....I personally think blue/any dyed hair is freakin' awesome and that anyone that thinks a person is ghetto and weird for just having dyed hair is plain stupid....hell, in fact, I don't like it when anyone judges anyone based on their appearance, even if A LOT of hairs sytles can be really weird :3 And not to be rude or judgmental but your boyfriend seems really picky, appearance wise at least....seems kinda screwed up he would also even say the words "I'm leaving you", but I'm not sure how you guys relationship works or anything so I can't really judge X3 Eh, overall I don't really got a good response, I mean I would say to just make your hair however you want it with whatever dyes you want and to keep it healthy, but I don't really want you to be picked on or anything....its stupid that you should even have to worry about others talking crap about your and others hair, some people are just stupidly judgmental :\ Anyway, don't feel discouraged just because your boyfriend and some judgmental guys don't like it :\ Be free with your hair and be yourself ≧◡≦ Hope I at least gave a half-decent response, and if not, my bad (∩︵∩)

usagi - You do not need anyone's approval or validations nor should you battle and toil over them. It is your body and you are the one who has to live in it everyday. You should be comfortable in it. IHMO dyed hair can look very good when well done. It can be the perfect compliment to ones look or distract from it like a neon sign. Do what makes you feel good about yourself above all else.

For me personally, I love natural hair, natural everything. That's just what I'm attracted to however I don't judge anyone who dyes/straightens/whatever to their hair, it's their choice. I remember when my ex wanted to dye her hair a different colour and honestly I wasn't that happy, because I loved it how it was and thought a different colour would ruin it, but it was her choice anyway. In the end she only dyed it a lighter blonde than it already was, and it looked good ^^ this will sound really contradictory from my first sentence but I actually straighten my fringe, if I don't it goes really dumb, and flicks in an odd shape where I have a huge gap, so I straighten it, but only the fringe since I don't want to damage it all too much. But anyway! You should just dye it whatever colour you want, and have it in whatever style you want, even if he is your boyfriend, his opinion shouldn't really stop you if you want to change it. Maybe he'll end up liking it :D

Also a big fan of natural hair, though I'm kind of the opposite of you in that my hair is straight and I normally curl it. At first using a curling iron, but now with just bobby pins. People who feel the need to make unwarranted comments about a person's appearance is probably just jealous of the other person's attention. Whatever you do to your appearance, just do it to make you happy. I know for some people it's going all natural, for others it can be extreme body mods and dyed hair. I don't support it if you do you it to fit in while being miserable. On the subject of your boyfriend, do you really wanna stay with a guy who's gonna break up with you over colored hair? I mean that's pretty petty.

i died my hair recently to a redisch color. why cause i do it for me. i've been in a relationship where the guy dictated what i should wear how to cut my hair, what color etc. you should not do or leave annything for a guy, no matter how much you love him. if you are happy you can make someone else happy and if that means cuttin g your hair or change the color go for it :3 offcourse don't go overboard keep it pretty its suposed to bring out your features not kill them ;)

For me, I have my hair kept long, haven't cut it in a while. If anyone insulted, told or ridiculed me about how it is, I would laugh at them. "Tell yourself how to be before telling others." That's what I consider, you must view yourself, because most times people insult others, but they are just insulting what they are. We are not simple "clones" of society, we simply have common interests with other people, not everyone is the same. Simply ask "Why do you insist that I am to be the same as you? When I am not." "You cannot be me, I cannot be you, only we can be ourselves, ignoring other opinions is arrogant, but destroying them is even worse!" To me, dying hair is interesting, only if it fits, it's awesome, but sometimes it can be quite ugly, but not always.

Hair is a big concern to a lot of guys. Some guys seem to prioritize it above everything else. That's just how guys are. Likewise I'm sure there's things guys can do to themselves that you wouldn't find very attractive, like try to imagine how you'd feel about your boyfriend getting a huge ugly tattoo on his face or something like that.

You should do what you want really no one but you can say what to do with your hair. It is fun to play with and experiment. I have had mine many colours and people made fun of me because of it, but I was happy with what I did.
