I think knowing history is imperative in order to learn from mankind's mistakes. Without record of history we are doomed to repeat our mistakes.

Heck a lot of students don't care much for history as is. I say make black history into a full elective course focused on that topic. If you're interested have at it, if not you weren't going to really learn it anyways. I personally found that European history interested me more than US history.
