In my opinion when it comes to romance and relationships. If you walk away and not try to help her you are basically just as guilty as your best friend. And yes you will be a push over. That may seem harsh, but it's the truth. Let's say this woman was not even your girlfriend. Would you stand by and witness your best friend be racist towards her? And if you did not help the statement stays the same about what I said before.

That would be very noble of you to act that way to protect her like that, but now I am curious. How would you react if your gf came up to you and told you that your bestfriend has been calling her racial slurs and has been harassing her when you are not looking? Some cases now one's spouse do not usually bother in telling their lover that they are a victim of racism by their own inner circle or close family in an attempt to not trouble them. Sorry if this seems strange to ask. I am in a curious mood now.
