You know, as someone who dresses up as my own characters at places outside of anime cons, odds are people will want to compliment you and take pictures more than stair at you and think you're weird. If you're bothered by attention in general, then I would recommend discussing your concerns with your friend. If its merely negative attention that bothers you, then try cosplaying characters who more people recognize in pop culture, than in niche anime circles. People tend to react more positively when they see "cool pokemon costumes", and nobody is going to question why you're dressed up as "Japanese cartoon characters." FEW is just amazing highly recommended. I should mention I'm probably the only person not interested in Odyssey but I like Mario kart 8 deluxe and want to get breath of the wild at some point as well

New threads are posted frequently enough. A lot of the ones with a million+ posts are usually games and comical junk threads that you can pop into and out of any time, without having to read everything you missed. Random chatter isn't exactly the place to be for intellectually stimulating conversation (Although that can happen every once in a while), its a place for joking around and not taking yourself too seriously.
