This is just speculation but I think that it was just to express how much he wanted his ideals to be acknowledged. They said that flame hazes were bound to their fate but Yuuji wanted otherwise, to relinquish destiny itself, even after the grand scheme was finished and the snake of the festival gone, he wanted to show her that he'd rather die by battle rather than give into fate.

There's always gonna be people that prefer taking the easy and cheap way out regardless of repercussions those actions may have on others. That's kind of inherent to the artistic field.

I always have the same advice for people who want to change their bodies out of concern of approval. You and you alone are the most important person to approve of your body as you have to live in it.
