While that might be true and when I say this I don't mean to be rude or a know it all or anything but I just personally don't understand how using an anime icon due to "being ugly" would work. Eventually youd need to show your face... right?

Unfortunately there have been people or companies stealing people's images on here to use for personal use without permission. It isn't a secure site so most choose to remain anonymous until the people they are speaking to appear trustworthy enough to meet in real life. I absolutely agree about the frustration of mask wearing on a site advertising meeting real people, but safety will always be a fair argument in this day and age. Women tend to get picked on worse than men, however not all men were built equally and some have thinner skin than others. Hope that clears up your questions.

I dont like putting my pics online in general for OPSEC reasons.. even though my OPSEC isnt the best lmao.. (no reason to make it worse) I think for MO specifically i never intended to use it as a dating service, but either way ive still made progress without a pic >.> I usually share that in discord DMs when getting to know someone.

Honestly for me I have real pics of me in my pics on my profile if you take the time to look. It's the people that took the time to look that I'd really want to talk to anyways. Not someone who is drawn in by my icon.
