Is race really a factor? O . o [Gomen for ranting]

sadie
If somebody really does end a relationship because they say their *parent* are racists, then they're just cowards. I'm blessed with nice liberal parents, but if they weren't I would damn well try to educate them.

i for one don't care about race, the color of skin won't keep me from the girl i love.

My parents would definitely be a barrier because they're much more conservative than I am. Some parents are just NOT accepting of other ethnic/cultural groups, AND THEY WANT TO CONTROL THE OPINIONS OF THEIR CHILDREN EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER. (I've had some traumatizing experiences. My parents just ended up strong-arming me into agreeing with them. It's really hard when the power balance is tipped in their favor. I pretty much have no free will and I'm a junior in high school already.)

Well sure a hard thing to answer, but in my opinion and from what I see in college everyday, most people just say things like "I dont care how you look or what is your religion" still as I have seen with my friends thats pretty much a lie for them, their parents have put them lots of ideas, of what is good and wrong, does race matter, nope, but yet is a factor that separates people cause of their ideas, and it is a barrier that we gotta yet to surpass

Surprised this tread came back to life. I have an experience I will share with you all. I recently went to Animezement in North Carolina. Friday, was when I arrived and I was deeply disappointed. They had a skid that clearly had a racist tune to it. It was making fun of different cultures world wide. Granted all cultures world wide do to stupid stuff. I mean who hasn't seen "Jack ass" right? But the whole thing had nothing to do with anime. It was just leaving some weird impression of people from different nations. I expected some abrasiveness being a southern state and all. But it was weird, some people looked at me funny in the city. Like they never seen a Hispanic that wasn't in work gear. So yes people like that do exist still.

Part II Well while I was there I met with someone from this site. Well I met her and her friend and just so we are clear they are white not that it matters. While I was talking, guess what happen? Some dudes were pointing a lazer at me from the second floor. Odd enough. The dudes were black so I guess they were just fooling around. But the vibe in the town felt strange. I guess it could have been my imagination.
kyetge
Yeah, with that context I wouldn't be too comfortable. :P Too much racial tension in the air.

When tension reach its peak, is usually when things get worst sadly
kyetge
Yes, I must agree with that. But what can we do about it to lessen the tension? Some people just do not let offenses go as easily as others.

I believe it really depends on your background and socioeconomic status, rather than skin color itself. There is just a huge association between race and class that some people simply stick the two together without further investigation on an individual. No one's going to discriminate against you if you're well-dressed, talk with proper English grammar, and have a good job/career.
