I looked through this forum to see if there was a thread about this here, and there wasn't, so I figured I'd start it up. Honestly, I myself am a bit polyamorous (or at least poly-open) and at this point am curious as to what the populace of the board thinks of polyamory in general.
Note: Polyamory=/=cheating, it's more of an open, trusting relationship with several consenting adults involved that know of one another.

I've got nothing against the practice myself. Most people I've met who are poly seem very nice. I just couldn't do it personally myself or have a significant other who practiced it. I'm a one woman kinda guy and I'd need a partner who was equally dedicated.

I do happen to know a poly couple who've been married for about 5-6 years, and it does take a lot of trust. A lot of the poly community view jealousy as a symptom and try to find the cause in themselves when they have that feeling (aka what do I feel I'm missing/afraid of when my partner is with our other?), which is the opposite of compursion, which is what many practice. It does take some getting used to, and most trios and up do set ground rules. I'll have to root around for the link to my friend's blog, where she chronicles her life as a poly and tries to inform about the lifestyle and what it entails.
Ah here's the link: http://polyinlove.wordpress.com/

No, the author of that blog is a woman, but I haven't read through her most recent posts. As I said before, polyamory does not equal cheating. Cheating is where the partner doesn't know or consent to it. There are some very loving systems out there that've been established and married for quite some time. If I gotta do more extensive research and post it here, then I will. Heck, you could even email Steph with any questions you have about the lifestyle, as she's been in the community longer than me. Here's the wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyamory it explains it more in detail than I can.
