What do you really want?

I'm working on improving MaiOtaku right now, until I get wrapped up in convention season again. What seems like it would be rather useful to you? New pages listing your anime and conventions? More ways to find people who've attending the same conventions? Endless scrolling on profiles and the homepage? How often do you check out your matches? Are they pretty neat? Might I need to make them more visible, so that they actually seem like a thing? I want a lot of ideas, because there are several that I just don't have the patience to implement right now (I'm working on chat, but it's working on me right back).

Maybe a way to search through the forums. Instead of having to look through them all for a specific one. Or maybe just something like "Topics this user has posted in" kind of thing.

Id like some sort of notification of receiving a friend request and having one accepted, whether via email or the little notification thing doesnt matter. Other people have mention adding a games list as with the anime/manga/con lists but I dont know how much of a priority this needs to be on an otaku website. Though Im pretty sure plenty of people would add games and info themselves fairly quickly. Im not sure how you do your matching database but a lot of the time if/when I look the numbers all appear around the same. Like 60% or 35% are the most common, with only a few others inbetween. I dont know if thats meant to be like that or it needs tinkering? A Q&A section might be nice in case newer people have issues with certain aspects of the site. I see far too many people signing up, filling their profiles and adding some pics then never coming back. I dont know whether thats a usability problem or just lack of interest but if its the former it would be nice for people to have somewhere to go! Thats all I can think of atm!

Sandman, I couldn't read a lot of that. Also, yes, I need to make it possible to subscribe to other people's pictures after you post so that you can see if they've replied, indeed. 1. Chat 2. Forum search 3. Topics x user has posted in 4. Notifications for friend requests 5. Game list 6. More varied matching percents The Q&A idea is possibly a bit of usability and a bit of that's just how things tend to happen. But I've improved most of the interfaces quite a bit lately, and hopefully can add some new things to get new users engaged more quickly... hopefully. So that's #7 I guess. XD Here's something I want to add, but don't think it would be easy: 1. A "please think twice" message when someone tries to rate all of their anime 9 or 10. There are quite a few people who do this... how the hell am I supposed to know which is their -Favorite Favorite- like that, lol.

I was wondering if it would be possible to extend/nullify the word count limit on forum posts, or at least implement a ding or notification when you've written too much. It can be a little depressing when you inadvertently write a huge response to convey an entire, or several, ideas, and then have the entire thing disappear when you try to post it. I don't know anything about code or implementation, though, so I'm not sure how practical this idea is. You already mentioned chat, so I'll just say I'm looking forward to that, whenever it stops being a problem. lol

Regarding the heart pieces, one idea I literally just thought of right now was maybe having like a Heart Shop where you can spend them on little additions. Things like adding stuff to messages, like mini-gifts or something? Maybe something to customise aspects of your profile perhaps? Just ideas mind, I dont know coding limitations.... I like the word count notification. Thats a cool idea Also, I dont mind helping with some stuff if needed. Im no coder (I can only do basic editing of other peoples work) but I can do things like sprites (royalty free, Im aware of legal stuffs), image based stuff and information gathering.

Is there a help page or something that shows you how to link, display images and what not on the forum? Just shortcuts in general.
