I wouldn't necessarily ask the person I'm with to cosplay for me, but I would probably be floored if they thought of it themselves and just walked out of the room as Revy or Medusa. I've never cosplayed. Partially because I have amazing stagefright, but mostly because there aren't a lot of hairy, overweight, shaved-headed white guys in anime. Go figure. lol

Look at this pic and try and come up with another excuse not to cosplay... http://cosplay-nation.webs.com/photos/Funniest-cosplay/bad_cosplay_153.jpg

Hey, he can do the splits, that's more than I can do. lol I just never found a character I could pull off. Although... Crap, I just forgot his name. Guy from Genshiken, dated Ono. Tanaka? Wow this is horrible, I seriously can't remember. (Anyhoo...) I might be able to pull him off, if I got a wig and colored my beard. Although I'm not sure a wig and street clothes count as cosplay. lol.

If you dress up as a character, then youre cosplaying. My point with that pic is you dont have to look exactly like the person, just pick someone you like and go from there!

Even characters have street/normal clothes. Just makes it a bit harder to be recognized, but can be good if you want to be casual or not spend a lot on a costume.

Okay now I'm seriously considering this character for con. Although not for my first con. I want to just experience the con itself, for the first time, and take it all in. Thanks for the advice folks ^_^

I went to my first con in cosplay! Honestly its not like youll be out of place or anything! And certainly dont worry about how you think your cosplay looks. Ive seen some terrible cosplay (hell even my first was god awful and there was actual photo evidence slapped up on a gallery wall of it too *dies*) Do eet!

I just started cosplaying this year as Korra, and I did use the cosplay outfit for non-convention reasons. (I've only attended Anime Expo 2012) My marathon running program had a Halloween 10K run at La Puente, and I wanted to outdo all the other kids in half-ass Superman capes and Tinkerbell tutus/mismatched stockings (I have nothing against either, but people can definitely run marathons in costume - so why not go all out?). So I summoned the avatar spirit within me and got a pretty good run time, even if other kids talked shit, and I lost both of my hair pieces that day. :( On a lighter note... I'd love to attend a local cosplay gathering, like at Little Tokyo, but I'm terribly shy if I don't know anybody, and I'm stuck on ideas for who to cosplay next.

Shyness can help you pick a character, I think. Why not a shy girl, like Nodoka from Negima?

@Tobi You could also cosplay a goron if you're into Legend of Zelda and just say you're a variant with lighter skin and darker decorative marks. :D @Kye You could probably pull off Nanao if you like Bleach and prefer something a little more conservative in clothing. Or, if you feel comfortable in skimpier outfits, Lara Croft'd work. :) I'm just basing this off of your profile pics though. As for the OP, I'd only ask that for a cosplay meet or cons. It'd be a little too weird to coerce a partner to cosplay for cuddles.
