I'm the one saying animals are not people.
I'm saying that animals are the logical extension of the same reason why we give humans moral consideration - empathy.
"You wish for what a person is to be what it is not."
I don't eat meat and I don't drink milk or eat eggs (though I do bake with eggs) and same with %3 of the human population, so it is possible for humans to be vegan.
Humans have moral agency.
Chickens cant tell you not to eat them but they clearly don't want to die. Pig's get so scared when put in trucks they will literally jump out of them. Pigs are often routinely beaten because they won't go down the slaughter house rows because they're scared. They don't want to die.
This is just slaughterhouses, not even getting into factory farms (which is 99% of the meat industry)
So I give animals moral consideration because of their capacity to experience pain and suffering. Why DON'T you give animals moral consideration?

Actually it’s a pretty good debate topic (^^). I enjoy seeing both sides ∩^ω^∩.
Same Tiki :D! I can’t wait either :p.

not to be a stick in the mud but early lab grown meat research has required fetal caff tissue to replicate the cells
so as long as no more fetuses are used yeah I'm all in too, beef is hard to replicate (chicken is pretty easy though oddly enough)

Hit delete when I wanted to edit haha sorry.
Still it remains the same.
Animals will have to rise up an army to make me treat them as equals.

That’s a fair opinion I suppose. However the ethics behind farm and slaughter are really in vegetarian and vegan’s court. You can argue that you feel your side is the right way to live a life, but the ethics of preservation of life and even the protection of our planet against methane emissions from farms is undeniably ethical.

Swift painless death? Do you slaughter your own animals? And if so what gives you the authority to needlessly kill an animal and not have it be immoral?
If your bowing out of this debate then I'm gonna call it my win as you have not put forth an argument that I didn't counter.
We give moral agency to our fellow humans because of empathy. Because we know what it is like to suffer and would want others to not suffer as a result. The same consideration would logically extend to other highly sentient beings such as animals.
You have not given a logical counter to the fact that animals feel pain and there for should be given the same basic moral consideration we give each other.
Also Animal Farm is an allegory about communism, and I already own the book. Nothing to do with veganism.
