Yes… talk to the penguins!

@chocopryo What kind of climate change policies do you think would actually make a difference? Without China and India coming to the table on the issue. In my youth we had a cartoon Captain Planet that resonated well with kids. Do we still have anything like that? Also I think a major problem with the efforts of tackling the issue is the messaging. It’s always carbon this, climate change that. I feel like the messaging went over better with a larger group of people when it was about taking care of our planet and stopping pollution. Not just climate change. Not everyone believes the climate alarmist, but everyone knows pollution is bad. I hear all the talk about climate change while I’m driving down the highway seeing the road way clutter with trash. Aren’t we missing something important in the topic?

@a_wesley_g And in typical fashion, you hone in on the weakest point of a conversation in attempt to derail away from must be a very sore topic for you, but fuck it, I'll take the bait. Tired of talking about pedo shit anyway. (For now.) This is a conversation that needs to be had. I do somewhat agree with your point here. Messaging is something that the environmental and habitat sciences have never quite gotten down. Though what you're talking about here is called Habitat Restoration. Cleanliness is of course important. I've done my part in boy scouts picking up trash. Even worked at a landfill for about a year doing exactly that. (And the conservatives in the state house just went and built housing developments over top of it.) But god damn, habitat restoration is just a piece of the puzzle. (By the way, all those environmental policies that Musk illegally cut and all that national park land he gave to corporate logging and oil companies? A lot of them had to do with what you were talking about. Pollution control and environmental management. And also, there was study that managed to cure cancer, but that went on to go ignored and unfunded too. Fact is, big pharma makes a huge profit by keeping that around.) But do you know why I care about atmospheric climate change? Because we stopped having consistent winters in Southern Ohio about 20 years ago. I've watched it happen. And if you look at the longterm cycles of the earth, we've been due for another ice age right about now. And instead, the polar ice caps are melting, and countries above the artic circle are experiencing a few dangerous prehistoric bacterias that were frozen in that very same permafrost. We're talking shit that human beings have never been around to develop antibodies before. Imagine that shit coming down from Canada, the way Tuberculosis did at the turn of the century. One of the ways we could fix it? We already have effective alternatives to the energy grids we've been dependent on for so long. The tech in that department has come a long way. Hell, we don't even have to get rid of all coal and gas plants. Just get enough infrastructure for a more diversified system in place, and you already cut the CO2 emissions considerably. In the nuclear department, the research on Thorium as a Uranium replacement is going underway with some promising, much safer results. But it will be a while before we see anything about that, thanks to Putin unceremoniously trying to invade Ukraine, and the EU having to reallocate their budgeting to build up their militaries as a response. Tech for wind and Solar has made some considerable advancements in the past few years. And building that infrastructure needed for any of these will make millions of jobs. But that's only the US. China and India also have to make an effort. As for funding... Well, you know how much money we pump into our navy to patrol commercial shipping lanes for international trade? You know that bloated military budget that allowed generals in Iraq and Afghanistan to slurge on mansions? We could easily fund it everything with just a fraction of what we shovel into those departments.
