i never said it would, but why hide what happened? why learn about any of our history if we ignore the bad? whats the point? just so we can jerk ourselves off about how cool we are? to ignore the bad this nation did is to deprive our youth of the truth. of information.
i think its wrong that japan doesn't teach the bad things theyr country has done, i think its wrong that British education skips over the horrific things they did as well. whats the point of ignoring it if not just stupid nationalistic pride?

@momoichi yeah we can learn about slavery. But not for the entirety of middle school. Not the entirety of highschool.

Horrific events is literally every nation and nationality on the planet. The genocides of the Bantu expansion, the genocide of the Hmong by the Chinese, Spanish inquisition etc.. What CRT does, is say that the US has special horrific events and culture that make the US worse than any other nation. Such as very small percentage of the US having slaves and blacks should hate whites over it, despite the fact that it is estimated that the majority of the whites in the US are descendants of immigrants that got here over around 40 years after slavery had been abolished. Slavery is bad, that isn't the problem with CRT. The problem is that it tries to paint the US as an absolute demon of a nation with no equal in atrocities, aside from Nazi Germany however that is treated more like a boogeyman.
Now if I were a race theorist, I should hate Germans because their ancestors killed 20 million of my people. I should hate the Japanese because they killed 1 million of my other people. These events weren't even 100 years ago, we still have people alive that did those things. I don't hate them, it makes no sense to hate them. They paid for what they did, their nations were humiliated and their power stripped from them.

@hell_hound7 why? i learned about slavery in elementary school. you don't have to go into details, just something like "long time ago, people thought it was ok to own other people. we know now that its wrong."
i literally learned about slavery, if i remember correctly, through the story of that black railroad spike guy and the machine. they told us 'btw, people were slaves' when we learned about tall tales in elementary school. it didn't make my head explode, i thought 'wow people back then weren't very nice" or something.
when it comes to things like what happened during the first thanksgiving should be glossed over, sure, because that was a literal massacre/didnt even happen so its hard to be vague about it.
idk if you think wer telling small children about slaves being whipped and raped, but no ones asking for that. we should tell them about what the slaves went through, but spare the gruesome details until their old enough, like highschool or something.
should women not be allowed to know that they weren't allowed to vote or leave their husbands? are we not allowed to know about the suffrage movement? why not? that's apart out our heritage and it gives us pride for our gender
why cant black people learn that the slaves rebelled, that they started the underground rail road and helped each other escape those awful conditions
history can be a source of pride for people because people overcome these horrific conditions and persisted.
edit: for context, I'm not referring to crt. i don't know enough about it to give a real opinion, but on the outside it seems good, yeah. I'm on the side of telling our children what happened, and going into more detail when they can best handle it.

Heck a lot of students don't care much for history as is. I say make black history into a full elective course focused on that topic. If you're interested have at it, if not you weren't going to really learn it anyways. I personally found that European history interested me more than US history.

school is pretty much daycare. they teach kids/teens random shit specifically to 5 because that's when parents come home.
