The old gear is called "3DM Gear", the new gear is called "ODM Gear". To be honest, I don't even remember what the effective difference between the two were. They seem to function basically the same anyways. However, in the final season, the scouts acquired more modernized weapons, along with the thunder spears. If we ignore Zeke, doesn't that mean Reiner could have still warned them about the 3DM?

@mountain_tiger why would reiner warn them about ODM? Reiner never would have thought that they would show up in marley. Which is why he was so surprised when he saw eren. Also with paradis they probably wouldnt have to worry much about the ODM since they would be sneak attacking with the entire world backing them.

@hell_hound7 Well, he's still a soldier of Marley, and they were unable to capture the "Founding Titan" as their mission dictated, so I'd think the Marley Military would ask him questions about their defenses. It's like how porco was surprised the scouts were coming to kill him even though he was in titan form. You'd think he would be less surprised by it if Reiner or Zeke had given an adequate after action report when they returned.
