Be sure to be aware of what media they consume.
If a show or movie scares them, remind them it's all pretend.
Teach them to accept no as an answer and that sometimes they can't always do what they want.
Never take an infant into a movie theater or fancy restaurant.
Lean as many dad jokes as you can.

Don't scold/punish him/her too severely for ANYTHING. Have a talk and stay calm. The child shouldn't have any clue that you're mad at them. If they make a mistake in the future then they'll tend to lie to cover it up to avoid the scolding/punishment. And within a couple of years it'll become a habit. And you don't want that.

Actually to be fair I typically vote independent anyway. Don't care for left or right when down the middle makes the most sense. Plus you are hated by everyone making for more challenges to improve am I right?
However I didn't mean to get off topic.
