Near Death & Suicide Experiences

dakoya
Just curious to people and their experiences with near death and suicides. Doesn't have to be your own experience, could be someone you know. For myself, I've almost drowned a number of times. It kind of sucks. Each time I saved myself somehow and yet I still don't know how to swim. You would think I'd at least get the "kiss" event the number of times I've almost drowned lol. As for suicides, most of my siblings have tried to commit suicide or ranaway from home before. We live near a marsh, so it's easy to hit the trails and take a dip... *cough cough* <.<... plus we're surrounded by 3 rivers lol.

I'm the same way. Almost drowned 2 times in my life. But luckly someone was there to save my ass. But my experience with suicide is bad but not as bad as others.

Also nearly drown. Was swinging off a rope swing and jumping into a river. Swung too high and sank too deep. Got my foot caught in the mud at the bottom. Lucky all I lost that day was my shoe. If I hadn't been wearing shoes, I probably wouldn't have been so lucky. The panic of being stuck underwater and not being able to get yourself free. Scary as hell. Deep water still gets me nervous. My experiences with suicide... My cousin shot himself in head. Try to imagine your mom finding you, freaking out, and trying to put your brains back in your head. Doesn't really make sense, but what does to a hysterical mother. Tore his parents apart afterwards fighting over who and what was to blame. My best friend's dad hung himself and she came home to find him dangling there. She tried to commit suicide herself a few times after that. Trying to talk down a friend holding a loaded gun is scary as *&%#. But it's not much better when you find them laying unconscious with a pill bottle next to them and you can't wake them up... The thing about suicide... Whatever pain you think you're escaping by doing it. You're inflicting that pain a dozen fold on everyone around you that loves you, cares for you, and have invested themselves in you. There's hundreds of things you can do to change your situation if your life is really that bad off. Exhaust all of them first. My best friend who tried to commit suicide. Her life was horrible in ways you probably couldn't imagine. But she was still able to turn her life around. She turned the pain she went through into empathy for helping others. She has touched so many lives. Literally saved lives. Brought people back from the brink of death doing CPR, giving them another chance to go home to their loved ones. Think of the drastic influence her life had on EVERYONE those people knew. None of which would have happened if she had given in and commited suicide and died those days. If you feel like dying... You may not think your life has meaning, worth, or purpose right that moment. But that doesn't mean it never will. Don't end your potential. What her dad did nearly cost him his daughter's life also. Don't hurt your family like that as well.

Had been working out of town and was driving home to visit family one Thanksgiving. It was November, so it was a bit cold, and was raining just slightly that day. I didn't really think much of it at the time, the roads were fine. But it was just cold enough for black ice to form on the bridges. (Because of the airflow underneath, bridges freeze first.) And black ice is particularly dangerous because you can't see it. Anyways, about halfway across the bridge my tires lost traction and my truck started to turn side ways siding into the next lain missing a semi truck behind me by less that 10 or 15 feet. My truck barely made it over the bridge before going off the road and rolling down the embankment on the other side. Luckily my truck rolled back onto it's wheels, and I was still conscious and breathing inside, very much alive and happy to be so. If I hadn't made it to the other side of the bridge, that semi would have obliterated me. I popped my truck into 4 wheel drive, drove myself up the embankment, and back into town. Later I learned 5 people died in crashes on that very same stretch of road that day. I was extremely lucky, though my truck not so much.

Man, looks like a lot of us need to avoid the water o.O.... Also if you ever die by drowning, especially in a river, in my culture its taken that a Dragon came to take your soul away. @Wes You seem to have been through quite the times. It's good to see you still alive and kicking today. Also suicide is a crazy thing. It's saddening how it's increasing still. I would say some of it is due to the internet.

A handful of years ago I tried to take my own life. The story of how I've gotten to such a place is long. I failed, obviously. In retrospective I think it was mostly a shout for help, and/or attention. I got the help. I eat medication today, and visit physiologists and doctors regularly. Privilege and all that. I still consider to do it, daily. But I've made it so far. And while it probably was not a suicide, I lost my older brother to a overdose.

Well to add to the list I almost drowned. Thankfully my cousin's boyfriend was there and helped me out of the water. I still remember it very vividly and what prompted me to learn how to swim. There were also many times where I was almost struck by a car and a bus. Here in New York City, traffic can get very crazy so if you're not careful you're getting hit. And then finally there was a moment where three individuals (I think they were from some local gang idk) surrounded me and my friend and one of them had a gun. They were saying how they were going to kill us because we did something to them (some random nonsense) but thankfully there were some police officers in the area and they saw what what happening. They ran off and I never saw them again to this day. Thinking back to all those moments really makes you appreciate the life you have and that's what I try to do always. Because you never know what could happen.

@Mochi Mochi Yea, I think a good portion of suicides are attempts at shouts for help. I myself can categorize my one attempt at it to be the same. I'm also glad you got help and am coping it w/ it. Tough luck w/ what happened to your brother, but I'm glad you're around holmes.
