So that weird greeting people say how are you in stores and restaurants what is that? I never actually say it but I answer it sleepy, hungry, kinda drunk, terrible, uncomfortable.

What's the question? What's a cordial greeting? It's just a nicety that people say in which they really aren't enquiring about how you are, so much as trying to sound friendly.

It's just a greeting. They aren't really asking you a question. You're supposed to just say something like "I'm good, how are you?" They usually don't care how you really are and don't want to hear it.
