I dunno, I'm torn between the fluffs/whiskers and the nerds. Normal girls? I give them a chance, but more often than not, find that they're expecting something that I can't or don't know how to offer, or that I'm just unable to click with them half the time, and get bored.
A girl doesn't need to be Otaku per say, but I connect with people more intimately through my imagination than I do with commonalities, and because I'm Otaku myself, with at least 70% of the media I consume for the last 17 years being anime related, most of the stories, characters, and settings I generate in my head are anime inspired in at least some way.
I mean friendship is an option with anyone, and I don't need to go that deep to create a meaningful bond with anyone. But romantically is a different story.
And a cat named whiskers? That's not what I seek in romantic companionship, but damn, I do love the company of furry animals. And cats really are quite fascinating on a psychological level.

I would choose to buy a cat, but knowing my luck, the cat would probably also reject me.

Normals range anywhere from boring to outright disgusting. There's the possibility of conversion if you get to one soon enough, but the half way decent ones get snatched up fast and older ones don't like to change, and instead come with lots of baggage. (have fun cleaning up the mess their ex left you with.)
"Otaku" women tend to be fatties, or be batshit crazy. It's not easy to stay sane when hundreds of sad desperate perverted men trow themselves at you regularly. That would warp just about anyone's mind and give them unreasonable expectations/demands. Although many who get into anime already have problems to begin with.

I want 2 out of 3 of those things but sense the universe won't allow me to have 2 out of 3 of those things. I'll settle for a Corgi named Zwei.
