Public live feed?

Is there any way to view a public live feed of any status that goes up, or is it friend related only? If not then is there a reason as to why not, being that the community seems to not be THAT big surely having a live feed of all statuses posted would help people to connect better.

a live feed for the forum would be cool. refreshing all the time is annoying
