Should trust be given, or earned?

Give people the benefit of the doubt first time round. Past that, trust should be earned. Rule #1 Trust no one. Rule #2 don't trust the guy who told you rule #1.

I think...it can go both ways..given and earn. For example if you just want to "hook up" that person and you are basically GIVEN the trust to not murder each other and throw each other into a ditch..heh your pretty much taking a risk..yet the trust is given in some cases that is. Same if you are best friends that want to be friends with benefits trust is given. Same if you party with strangers or get a ride from strangers and you end up having romantic encounters trust is given to not..be in a relationship..at that time. Same if you get pregnant by a hook up trust he will take care of the baby is given in those umm..partnerships...friendships..acquaintanceship. When trust is earn is when you want a serious relationship, marriage,etc. So, since I'm in a serious relationship...my trust is earned. :) But, if I was single and out there hooking up and don't want a relationship my answer would be my trust is given.

well i mean thats kind of all up to you. i would normally say it should be given but if you trust just anyone eventually you will find out that some people cant be trusted.

Trust is something that's yours to give and for the other person to earn. You never know how the other person would handle it until you give them an iota of it

My general rule is, if ALL my dogs trust any person I bring home, then I trust that person. No questions asked. If not, that's when I have to rely on my own gut, experience, etc. :)

@Riolis Hmm, not really. I know pretty much if my dogs like and trust someone by other "tells", especially at the initial meeting. :) I mean, some people would take 100 dollars if you give it to them, but that doesn't mean they like you. :P
