I agree that sometimes trust is given and sometimes it must be earned
But trust has to first be given in order for it to be earned, I think that you have to give a little and if that trust isn't betrayed then give a little more and so on until you fully trust them. In order for trust to be earned your expectations for each other have to be discussed, explored and made clear. How can you trust someone to not talk to or look at other people (if that bothers you) if they don't know that it is what you expect of them, if they don't know what you want from then they can earn your trust by doing or not doing it
I know some people will think "well yeah that's obvious" but I have known people that had no idea they were betraying their partners trust because they didn't realize what was expected of them

I trust people much farther than they probably deserve, so I don't think I can offer much of a comment. I really just came in here to post this:

I think it's a mix of both and the level. I'm going to trust you with basic common sense things like telling you about myself, where I live, what I do until you give me a reason not too. Then there's a more personal level that only people like family, close friends, and relationship partner would probably know that you aren't going to tell some random stranger you meet.

I don't like making a huge deal on trust. You either trust someone or you don't. Can't blame a person either way, so I believe it depends on the person where they want to test someone (to see if they're worthy if their test/loyalty) or I'd they're easygoing enough to give the benefit of the doubt and trust you.

Like a lot say. I give my trust. Easily if you wanna put it that way, im very honest, so i expect there to be honesty along with that trust. It's a test really, Its a 50/50 shot that a person can fail that trust. I only give one chance to people for that reason, if they break it, they lose it. Not my problem after the fact. And this kinda leads to a lot of issues in the end, ones that could have given me trust issues. Again, no one is the same, so they deserve that trust to be blind till it is set in their and my hearts that we can trust. ^^

You should trust everyone with things that don't cause major damage or problems, if you can fix it with ease then you shouldn't have a problem trusting other people with it, as they act justly upon your trust you should give them more.
