Does appearance really matter?

emiyathearcher
I answered this before, but i have more to say on it now. Appearance does matter but not exactly beauty. You see, you can learn a lot about someone from their appearance, but not from the fact that they are purely beautiful. But in either case, you need more than just appearance to be attractive.

It does to an extent, we all have preferences some subconscious as programmed by nature. I however do not believe what the media sells as beauty the pinnacle of ideal necessarily. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all but character matters more in the long run if you want it to last.

Looks matter. There's nothing worse than someone who's good looking that has no sense of humor or are dumb as hell. Sorry pretty people, grow a personality. ^and that's now you fuck with shallow people....lol

I think it does at least minimally in the case of initial attraction. It's not the be all end all because I've crushed on a girl before who was kind of the opposite of what I'm attracted to physically. Actually met her here about two years ago.

To me it does, i think it should be mutual. If im in good shape and take care of my appearance, then would like for my love partner to be the same.

Yes looks do matter. I'm 50/50 on both looks and personality. In other words looks matter to me just as much as her personality.

It's rarely about attraction for me whenever I check out a person's physical appearance. Appearance is important because I think it is a huge indicator of a lot of things. It could determine the overall health status of a person as well as his self-value, self-worth, and self-esteem. These are important things I consider in a person that I want to be in a relationship with.

It's inherently in our biology to seek out certain features to our preferences that we know or dont know, even if let's say you didn't care about looks I'm sure there would be certain people you would turn down. Then at that point one might convince themselves it was their personality that I didn't like. There are exceptions such as legitimate pansexuals or people with physical/mental handicaps where they couldn't tell what they look like and draw any conclusions. I for one do have certain preferences such as the eyes along with the person having a overall tomboyish look or reserved look to them are a few of them. However, I know that I may not find all those in one person that I like or meet that person's overall preference either. So you just take a chance on what you have and see about everything else in a person.

Besides the biological aspect of things, I'll go ahead and take a view from it another way! Everyone has their preferences when it comes to personality and when it comes to aesthetics. But there aren't many people out there who can fill either of these to the brink of 100% according to your preferences. What I mean by that is that there aren't many people out there who fit every single personality preference you have for a person, so, to make up for those "lost points," you can go to a few things, aesthetics being one of them. Imagine this, if you really want a guy that likes hiking as much as you do, but the person you are currently interested in doesn't, you might try to find something to substitute and fill in that "hole." Most people go directly to aesthetics, money, status, power, and stuff like that. And it could be the other way around as well. Everything has substitutes! Some are better, some are worse. It just depends what you are willing to give up and replace. But this isn't, to quote a video I saw on Facebook, "Build-A-Bitch." So take what makes you the most happy, just don't try to change people in accordance to your preferences!
