Music in Anime

bleakwitch
Some good response so far. If you can, explain how the music affected the experience of watching the show instead of just listing the soundtracks you like. How about Video Games? They require you to interact and engage more with the story, so the effects of the ost can be amplified tenfold.

If you don't mind me jumping in, the music in the video game Journey is deep and relies on a solo cello most of the time. It makes playing the game seem more of a journey through life in a meditative sense. I also really love the soundtrack to Mushi-shi. It's so mellow, but also makes you ponder. Such as when they end an episode ends on mysterious note, the music leaves you to imagine what has happened to the people after the episode has ended. Or if it was particularly sad, the music heightens that feeling of sadness since the music is heavy and deep. I think I went off on tangents again sorry!

Hmm, there is one that is really good, but you have to hunt for it on YouTube. There's a guy who did fantastic piano covers on the robots' songs in Kamisama dolls, but like I said, you have to search for them. However, there's a guy called Teungxx who plays anime covers on his violin. A really beautiful (granted they all are amazing!) is his cover of secret base from Anohana. Hope this helps inchris

I'm a sucker for when the music in an anime is more than just ambient or enveloping, but that it freaking *moves* you, like it just hits the spot. Gundam Build Fighters is almost my favorite Gundam series and one of my favorite mecha anime on its soundtrack/score alone. Anything Hiroyuki Sawano touches (Sengoku Basara, Kill la Kill, Attack on Titan, Aldnoah Zero) gives me an eargasm.

Aldnoah Zero definitely had excellent music!! I loved the way it built up around the plot as things happened, It just made it that much better!!

I'm not really that much of a music guy, but I felt Kaiji had a very unique and interesting ost.

Any anime that Yoko Kanno did the music for is quite spiffy. The seatbealts (which Yoko Kanno is apart of) did the cowboy bebop soundtrack, as mentioned before its just wonderful and is a perfect fit for the show. Kanno also did the soundtrack for wolf's rain, Ghost in the Shell S.A.C, and Darker than Black. She really knows how to make special moments in anime become that much more dear to your heart. Also I most assuredly agree that Mushi-shi has a very calming and unique soundtrack. Fairy Tale really surprised me with its music, typically I don't care for shows like it, but I freaking love Celtic metal and anything that remotely sounds like it.

I can safely say that any OST that has Toshio Masuda is instant gold for me. His compositions can lead you to tears if the scenario is right and he has yet to fail in that regard. Many of you may know of his work if that have even seen some of the tear jerking moments in the naruto franchise. Prehaps you may even recognize his work on the Mushishi OST. Also in my opinion despite what many Say Heat Guy J had a pretty good OST.

Certain anime can pull off amazing things with music ... Initial D and Super Euro beat ... ! I can't imagine Initial D with any other types of music
