My opinion is child porn is always wrong under the age of consent. For myself, I think it is a matter of cultural differences between the US and Japan. In the US it is 18 (though some states it is younger), while in Japan it is 13 (with some obvious exceptions). Perhaps subscribing a random number to saying when a person should be displayed sexually, whether fictional or not, is a problem. Also with the spread of globalization, people can access any porn, physically and artistically, anywhere. I am not in the support of child abuse or exploitation. Rather, perhaps our society should reexamine how we view anime pornography, even of "young children". Historically speaking, people used to marry at much younger ages, sometimes as young as 12. In Delaware, you could marry at 13 until the 1970s. So perhaps we should examine the law on that. My point is, we need to address American sexuality and the legal system. We should reflect on the law. However, as it stands, the best option is to simply not indulge in child porn of any kind. Even with anime, it is best to exercise extreme caution. On a side note, if someone is secretly a pedophile but doesn't access child porn directly, his best job would be a detective lol

I don't think that's so relevant, so no. It's just drawings, fantasies, like Guro; people can admire it, but they would never do the same thing in real life (well, not the majority of them at least). When you see an adult in real life doing things with a child, now that's a true problem. For example, in the 8th grade I've had a teacher that frequently caressed the boys in the class, and there also was a old teacher that were "too close" to the little girls of 1st to 4th grade. Or once when I was in the road and saw a man in his 30's with a schoolmate of mine of only 13yo kissing and exchanging caresses like a sick porn movie. Damnit! And I'm sure that none of them have heard of anime... I think it's rather a cultural question, because in my country there's the "funk carioca" that is a sickening musical decadence, and I hate this shit, because pure children are influenced by our wicked media and with 7yo already thinking in dirty things... Here's a video if you're curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ymk3EMrugXo It's sad, when I was a child young girls were supposed to play with dolls... I don't know about you folks, but there's much worse things happening here to be worried about anime, that's what I think...

I'm in agreement with Ivo here. Childporn in real life is a disgusting violation of another soul's life path, which typically causes lifelong psychological damage. But then we get into the realm of sexual fantasy, where really strange fetishes become common. Things like Vore, My little Pony, Loli, Bondage. Now I may be disgusted by some of these things, but as long as there is a clear and healthy distinction between real life and enacted fantasy, and no actual violation occurs between any participating parties, I don't really think it's right to judge. People have a right to their fetishes. Then there's the creative media perception. I personally believe that in story telling, the characters are no more than just the brushes of a pen stroke on the page. Their story may be beautiful, or it may just be a work of sexualized smut. But I don't believe in censorship. You have a right to be offended by the content put out by a writer involving his/her depictions of a certain character archetype, but to so knowing that you aren't the target audience for that story. Just as you have a free will, so do they. And lastly, as has been brought up several times, the cultural sociological differences between cultures are just plain different. Now I'm personally not a fan of ethnocentricity at all. This way of thinking destroys cultures, languages, free wills, and lifestyles. Its true, we need some social activism in some areas of thinking, as human sociological evolution occurs within cultures, meaning old ways of thinking are no longer compatible with new generations. But in that case, you can't really stop the wheel of change. But if you want to change something in this world, make damn sure you have explored the subject first. People spout out inaccurate assessments all the time about groups they don't understand in their crusades to make the world a better place for themselves with the pretense of baring others in mind. And it does nothing but harm in the end, causing us to look at said "People" in dehumanized groups of "Those People". I can assess this because I still haven't outgrown that way of thinking myself.

Anime has definitely been known to sexualize children. For whatever that's worth.

so have films and books and music at some point or another. Doesn't mean we should generalize and ban the whole medium like some of the people in those articles would have us.
