I'm curious as to how many of you keep your love for anime, manga, figures, etc a secret from your family, or society. I keep it a secret from most people because of the judgement I'd receive. One example is one of my good friends from work kept asking me what movies, or tv shows I watch and I answered I watch a lot of anime. I instantly go that the feeling of being judged and not in a positive way. Now her and I rarely talk which is a shame. However now that I've joined this site I find it great to talk to people who share the same interests in anime as me, and there are so many friendly, and helpful people it's amazing. I digress, anyone willing to share why they hide their love for anime and manga? Or why they aren't afraid to show it?

Well I kinda avoid letting my dad's side of the family know about it since they're a lot more judgmental, my dad especially. other than that it's not something I go around telling people, but I do keep around a few subtle things that people who are into the stuff might notice.

When I was in high school I did, but this was back in the mid to late 90s when very few people even knew what anime was. Since then it's become much more well known and socially acceptable from my experience. It helps to join an anime club or help organize a con like I do so you'll be surrounded by a lot of people with similar interests.

I don't hide my love for anime from anyone or whatever. If your friends make fun of you for watching anime then they aren't your friends. I don't know what to say about your family so you gotta figure that one out. Just be yourself.

I'll tell anyone. People who judge are people who judge. If it isn't anime, it WILL be something else. And seeing as I don't care about the opinions of idiots anymore than I care about the opinions of ants (perhaps less so), I'll be honest with anyone about what I like.
People who believe they can tell the entire character of another base solely on the type of entertainment they prefer (and not have a logical reason to do so) are... idiots. Avoid them as they'll contaminate things with their idiocy.

I like to collect manga and watch anime but I don't have to keep this a secret from my family, because they just don't care at all, find "childish" and such. Even people in general know that I like anime and that's not so relevant, at least where I live. And I just don't care at all.
The only thing I have to keep a secret is hentai and stuff, heh...
