Why do people hate gays?

Here's a question: if you wanted to see different responses, why wait 10 posts later to just say, "marriage belongs in church, no sanctioned by the government"? Second: "Anyone here who doesn't act smug as fuck because "gay rights are obvious"?" That's asking for a calm discussion all right. And third, let's go back to slavery and Hitler. I expect someone to say slavery was horrible, lives lost, families separated. It was cruel, etc. that's all true. And the holocaust, the SAME thing. All true and both severe. The same thing can be said about gays and the struggle of living out in public as one. It may not have evolved to the point of slavery and the holocaust, but denying them rights, letting violence persist, it could get there. But to outright deny any similarities in the three is _______.... So how is that comparison not fitting? Hitler thought he was doing the right thing and making the world a better place. I'll go out on a limb here and say a large portion of slave owners believed in God, probably Christian in fact, read the Bible and thought nothing was wrong with it.

From the abstract of the study itself: “Only the homophobic men showed an increase in penile erection to male homosexual stimuli. The groups did not differ in aggression. Homophobia is apparently associated with homosexual arousal that the homophobic individual is either unaware of or denies.” http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8772014 Unfortunately, their sample size of 35 homophobic and 29 nonhomophobic men is ridiculously small (though most psychology research involves small samples). I can’t access the article itself to see what the actual numbers of homophobic to nonhomophobic reacted to homosexual sexual stimuli. It’s also suspect that the only ones to react to it were homophobic males. I would also like to know the cultural backgrounds of the participants of the study and if the same pornographic videos were used by the same group. The second article it states that the brain activity is similar between heterosexual and homosexual males and gay men watch a lot of porn. It does not mention why straight men get aroused by gay porn. What it does say is that they use similar adjectives when searching for porn. The article states “for just about every major genre of straight male porn, there is a gay equivalent.” This article does not support your hypothesis. Also, slavery, Hitler, oppression of homosexuals is not a very good comparison. There is no economic reason to keep homosexuals oppressed as in slavery. There are no active federal government laws (I stress the federal part) that put them at greater risk for violence as in Nazi Germany. They have a lack of rights. They have the same rights as everyone else but for the inability to marry who they want. What they face is cultural oppression. I highly doubt that homosexuals would ever run into something as oppressive as Jim Crow laws. @beatsbodyshot I am Catholic and I want everyone to have equal rights. The Pope supports this. "If a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge?" "It says they should not be marginalised because of this but that they must be integrated into society." It depends on the person. Homosexuals were never meant to be hated. Think of “hate the sin, not the sinner.” But some people (Christians I admit) use their beliefs as a form of oppression or even as a way to belong to a team that is against something based on their flawed view of morality. What I never want to see is that a Church requiring by law to marry homosexual couples. They can get married through the state.
