"Career". Money is great, but its all about loving what you do.
Find something you love doing, actually love working with. Then find someone dumb enough to pay you to do it.

Sure, if you live in japan. In the west I think you're mostly limited to dubbing, subbing, translating, and maybe editing.

Unless you make something so good that they might consider funding. You're gonna need talent, connections, patience and a lot of luck. It's not impossible though. More 'mangas' are bound to pop up in the west.
You could also work as an illustrator for x stuff. So many options to choose from, manga isn't the only path.
