Friend Requests

Okay, I've been on MaiOtaku for three days and I just want to know your opinion: Isn't it strange to send a friend request to someone who's a stranger? I mean, on a pure dating website they show you "matches" and then you can make requests based on those, with both parties clear about the intentions of the other. I feel more comfortable here if you message me publicly on my wall or on the forums, we chat and decide hey, I like this conversation, let's be friends and then send and accept each other's requests. I mean, that's how it works IRL, from my perspective. I find it kind of creepy to have a bunch of "friends" on my account who I've never exchanged a single word with and possibly only asked because of my profile picture...

Its probably because you can't pm someone here unless your friends and they don't want to publicly message you due to other people being able to read the conversation. I've sent friend requests before to people I haven't publicly messaged.

I was going to say something but it seems cecil pretty much just said it. It seems now *wasn't that way 1 or 2 weeks ago* that half the profiles I visit say that I cannot talk to them unless I'm their friend so you might HAVE to add them as a friend before you can even talk to them. That being said usually when people have sent me a request first they haven't followed up with trying to talk to me. Now if I get a request I TALK to them first and if things get going THEN I will accept.

It's not too strange. I get random requests a lot, though I don't talk to some of them, the recent ones that have added me I've been talking to a lot though ^^

Thank you, it has helped me avoid adding a few people who in the end I did not talk to much at all. Or never heard a reply from for that matter.

It only blocks ya if you're trying to chat with someone under 18... Dirty, dirty boy there anime kid.;) Also, a belated welcome. It's not necessarily creepy to post on a wall. If I find something interesting about what you've said in the forums, I'll bring it up to get to know you more. Some ( like me for instance) are just here for friendly chat and to make friends. This is more of a social site anyways...Well, when people are on.
