Well its not addicting for people who have other things on their minds. At least to me I feel that it is something that kills time and makes the person feel like they really achieving something by being more stronger or better then another player. As for actual mechanics and such the game itself will periodically give you good things by random chance and keep tempting you with new abilities. Then when you get those abilities they have already got more out along with new weapons. Not to mention the level cap they increase to draw even more play time in it. To me wow is a jack of all trades its not a typical mmo in the fact you can do quite a bit of things in it. Basically live out a fantasy life in it. I dont really get much appeal thought to it im more into games for lore especially mmos like that. Wow never really drawed me in that much.

I don't think it's all that cartoonish, going by all the anime styled games I've played, it's a bit more normal. But honestly I don't know what makes it so addicting, there's a lot of better MMOs out there, and free too. Point, click, press 1-0, pay monthly, repeat. My ex played WoW a bit but it didn't take her away from it, however her parents played it religiously, like I didn't see them as married, I saw them as 2 WoW players who had kids

I have no idea what made wow so addicting. I've been known to get really addicted to video games, but that one never did anything for me. Lots of quest text to read that I didn't care about, people killing me out of nowhere, I dunno. Some people just get drawn into the grind. The whole game is designed to be addicting, from the ground up. The dailys are there purely to force you to get online and play. That's just one example out of many on what makes it addicting.

It's just not for you. I'm not addicted to WoW but I play it because it has the most content of any mmorpg out right now. It has something to always keep you busy and your mind off things. I wish I could find a girl that gamed and read manga as much as me. It always seems to be about sex otherwise -_- If you're not into WoW, you won't see why it's addicting, as even I don't find it addicting. I play a bunch of different mmo's though, probably the one closest to being addicting to me was Runescape back in the day, good times... I game and read manga all day because real life is just a chore to me. This doesn't mean I'm not productive to society though, as I am in college currently, it's just that I find most things in life to be mundane, maybe they sort of feel the same way? From my experience, most females I talk to are usually always worried about things such as guys, maybe it was just their way of escaping? But there's also a fair number who are just e-whores, so annoying. The underlying fact is that games just make people feel better, haha.

wait....WoW is still a thing? I thought people moved on from that years ago, especially when something like Guild Wars 2 came out. Eh idk. the only mmos I ever invested time into were Runescape (cause it was a game that wasn't blocked by my school's internet when I was still in grade school lol) and Final Fantasy 14 AAR (my friends bought me it just so I can play with them)

MMO's (in general) are as arc said designed to be addictive, your time is literally money for the company's producing them whether it be subscription based or the "in game store" based free to play model. The longer you play the more money on average they'll get out of people, and while i don't agree with it from a moral standpoint it makes business sense. Even so i don't blame the company 100% for it, it's up to each person to manage their own time and money in deciding when is too much. I view it as a self control problem and you can help point it out to them, only they can correct it.
