Spanish is a beautiful language. Definitely on my list of languages that I want to learn. There's a Portuguese influence here though with a fair number of Portuguese people living here in South Africa. One of our neighbours, Mozambique, was a Portuguese colony too. Your situation with Spanish is similar to my Dutch classes. The language that is prominent in my region is Afrikaans, a dialect of Dutch. So when I had Dutch classes years back it was quite easy for me ;)
