The 5 languages are also just the most widely spoken ones. South Africa actually have 11 official languages. English is the second language of most people and mostly used when communicating when speaking with someone from a different culture. So most of the signs for example have the name in the indigenous language of the region and also in English. They do teach everyone different languages. I was taught 3 South African languages in school.

That would be awkward. For them and those sitting around them. We also learn about our flag and how to sing the national anthem in a correct manner. The South African national anthem has five sections that are in five different languages. Quite a task to learn it as a child ;0
