Lol, actually confused you and xypho for a sec and posted this on his page first but meant to post here:
Talking about identity and gender issues reminded me.
I've always thought that one of the biggest issues that cause problems between genders is the culturally enforced gender rolls that are learned from a young age. By which I mean females are "supposed" to be coy/shy, passive, pure and usually objectified by male culture as a conquest or toy. While men are supposed to be aggressive, competitive, dominant and not cry and such. On the male side, these tendencies are self-enforcing as the frustration of not being allowed to show certain emotions causes frustration and anger. That self-enforced emotional block along with the view of the need to conquest females to be accepted (impersonal objectification) is probably the major contributor to sexual violence against women. Even women put down other women by calling them sluts/whores if they express too much overt sexuality, or just as a base insult. Lots of younger generation people these days are trying new things and going against traditional gender roles or even the usual concept of gender as most people are a mix of various traits we usually assign to specific genders. So I hope we can slowly move away from these issues of violence and fear down the road. I sometimes wonder if a matriarch would be better. Or just significantly reducing the male population.

Heh. Well I had a follow up question to that but you pretty much answered it already. That's like a whole new level of succinct.

"I was going to let you go. After all, there aren't many of us out there, but you're just such a pain in the ass."
Lookin' psycho without even trying. ElfenLied was one of the first animes I've ever watched and I still have a deep, emotional connection to it. The wig and lenses are from amazon and the horns are DIY.

I don't see eye to eye with you in things but I respect you because I've seen you confront your issues here and not just hide away or something.

Would I be right in assuming that you are a fairly regular cosplayer?

My life is pretty boring right now. Not doing a whole lot just studying, creating resumes that sort of thing. Watching anime when I get the chance which is not much :( My research is leaning towards traditional women gender roles in japan. I am using shoujo manga as a basic to explain how it is challenging the idea that the Japanese women must become a wife and stay home to take care of children.
