I was showing my friend from Japan my imput methods on the phone after I typed "hajimemashite" for you, and ya was on the bottom, so when I went to tap done, I accidentally tapped "ya" や so I tapped it by accident! :P I also know kanji, but it may be difficult for you so I didn't put kanji in what I sent you. It's "on purpose" not "on porpoise" porpoise is a kind of sea mammal. Looks like a dolphin without the nose. :P It's cute, though. If anyone got offended at you saying "Gonbanwa" it may be because they think that you're making fun of them, cause it's actually konbanwa こんばんは. Looks like you really love the language, and that should motivate you, but remember Japanese is very difficult. Just because people can say "kawaii desu yo" or "sugoi" or "kakkoi" or "dame" doesn't mean they are a Japanese speaker. :P Means they know some cute little words. Study hard and you will get good at it.

Hey are you trying to say moshi moshi? Lol I will teach you something new! Hajimemashite はじめましてや it means "nice to meet you!" Also, here is a very useful one! Konnichiwa! こんにちは！^o^ this is better for greeting! Japan uses moshi moshi もしもしonly on the phone! （＾∇＾）hope I helped you! Ganbatte!
