R.I.P. Marshal Josip Broz Tito who died 40 years ago on this very day. A revered socialist statesman, but to me, the greatest Slavic statesman of recent history. https://hangbul76.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/img_5290-e1571468628266.jpg In World War II he lead the partisan movement to victory, liberating Yugoslavia from the Nazis, their allies, and fascist collaborators. He then maintained Yugoslavia's Independence from NATO and the Warsaw Pact through the formation of the Non-Aligned Movement. And although he is ultimate failure was not bringing about reconciliation between the Southern Slavs still aching from a past century of historical grudges, at least for a time, he was able to show them that they are brothers in a unified pan-Slavic state whose principles were brotherhood and unity. Sadly as Tito is no more, neither is the great state he built, but one can hope that one day, the southern Slavs can live by brotherhood and unity again even though they are separated by modern borders. https://youtu.be/VUHomp4igFU
