There are establishments that are strict with having no tattoos specially waterparks and onsens ^^;. Haven't heard of hotels turning their backs on people with tattoos though.

I just binge watched Densha Otoko with English closed captions.(youtube) Wow, based on a true story. Painfully funny. I highly recommend it. Live action based on an Otakus uncommon experience. There is a wikipedia about it. Apparently there is a manga also, have not read the manga yet.

It use to be in my city but they always ruined the hotels XD such a rowdy bunch so it goy banned. It was a long time ago but I always enjoyed it, not exactly sure what its like now.

Hihi, well I don't really think it's much different than anywhere else, tbh, a lot of people actually watch anime in my city, some even do it at school/college on their phones or laptops.
