Idk take this with a grain of salt but a lot of people into anime can be pretty frikkin weird. I stayed away from the anime clubs in hs and college. They just seemed yeah. Also some of the online community from what I've can be really elitist as to what is considered good anime. (Calling ppl plebs, filthy casuals. Looking at you MAL and /r/anime sometimes).
