I'd say, ignore them if they are going to be boring? Why do you care what they think? Maybe they are also secretly impressed that you can play in another language! (I seem to get that impression, at least) Oh, and it helps that MANY people are still mentally in the past about video games in general and think you are "crazy" just because you play them at all. So yeah, just don't worry about it. It's not porn, after all. (Unless it is, I guess. Then yeah, angle the TV.)
Myself, I import only. If there isn't an English option, all the better. (Absolutely no English-dub-audio allowed, EVER) And I love it!
The only thing really frustrating is when you go to play Smash Bros., Mario Kart, or whatever multiplayer with someone and their first words are "But I can't read it!"... to which I reply "So what? You don't need to even be ABLE to read to steer a car or punch Mario!" And then they usually get the idea that they are actually just playing a game and enjoy it.
